The Media Guru

Here's a list of all Windows Media Player 11 (Xp & Vista) shortcuts. Many people don't bother to check the help resources of applications, but often there are hidden commands that are not available via the options. this is nice except that the shortcut keys listed that I need the most don't actually work. The rating hot keys (cntrl + windows key + 1-5) don't do anything.

Yes, it doesn't work for me as well! :|

I guess it only works on the Vista version of WMP 11.

Here's a cool shortcut that I ran across. Hold down the shift key and click on the little seek button (the little pip that tracks across the seek bar, I'm not sure what it's called). It will then outline the seek bar.

Once you do that you can fast advance by using the left or right keys or you can do time compression by holding the shift key and using the left right arrows.

I figured the fast advance jumps about 20 seconds, the time compression maybe 5. I haven't been able to find any specifics as to what exactly it is doing.

Thanks a lot... er... Anonymous!

Shift-clicking on the seek bar allows you to control it via keyboard!

It also works with the volume as well!

If you press right or left, the seek will fast-forward or rewind by levels of 20s.

If you hold shift & press right or left, you can fine-tune how much you want to fast-forward or rewind.

Shift+Direction keys also works with volume.

The rating keys don't work on Vista either. >:|

Microsoft admits on this site that the ratings shortcuts are false advertising.
