Rs 60,000 for a fraking phone? No thanks…
The tiny prints:
- * Special launch offer - conditions apply
- Tariffs are VAT inclusive
- Contractual period – 24 months
- Normal tariff will be charged for all communication over and above package as well as any excess.
As expected if you go beyond your limit, you’ll pay the normal post-paid tariff. It’s more than enough if you are not a big gossiper. However, the total duration only applies to calls to Orange and MT fixed lines. & if you’re calling Emtel or MTML, you’ll need need to pay on top of that!
For the SMS, again it depends on how much SMS you send per month. Many people will find that 200-350 SMS are too low a number. Turn to email instead if you want to cut down on costs.
But the worst is the data usage. Why don’t Orange realise that the iPhone is a fricking Internet device!?!?! It has the best web browser anywhere, it has Google Maps, Twitter, IM & much more. Almost everything on the iPhone is centred around it having unlimited Internet connectivity.
Imagine how low 250/400MB is if you’ve got a 384kbps connection which can blow that limit in just a few hours of YouTubing… You won’t be able to use that WiFi everywhere can you? Don’t forget it’s Rs 1/MB for excess! That is an epic FAIL! Frak you Orange & Apple!
& as stated in the Terms & Conditions unlocking or jailbreaking your iPhone voids your warranty. I think many people will now find eBay much more attractive than ever…
Btw I’ve tried to watch that crap of the live webcast. Guess what I got?
Update:
Oh, btw have anyone of you wondered how the hell are you going to access iTunes Store? There is no Mauritius iTunes Store, is there? So basically your iPhone is useless since you can’t download apps, music & videos….Orange a lancé l'iPhone à Maurice

I always said
"Iphone ine faire pu zis glacer, dans morice!"
You can "glacer" at a cheaper price, by using a fridge!
Buying iphone on ebay is certainly the better deal. Ppl who gonna buy it, will be attracted by the free mins offered.. but with experience, no matter the limit, its never enough :D
im waiting for nokia 5800 or N97, whateva comes out first!!
@Yashvin
LOL
@Varun
The 5800 will be here first because there's still a few months before the N97 will be released.
Hey, look Yashvin, iPhone is not only a product to "glacer", its a modern phone that is way advanced than any other phone in the market... The only shit is the Orange's contract plan..
@ Varun(Dota player?:P), Nokia 5800 is quite good, but the N97 is a real shit... A fucking keyboard integrated with a touchscreen phone is way ugly, unprofesional... Its good that this blog exists, but someone need to write it on newspapers or go on radio... Maybe I can't get my iPhone from Orange, but we need to make other Mauritians know about the real price behind... I watched the live launching and I saw those first people entered the shop and the employees showing them how to use the iPhone etc... and some even bought it (I'm prett sure they didn't even calculate the real price(what a pity)
@Jo
& the worst thing is that some people just saw the Rs 6000 price & went - "Wow! That's the cheapest smartphone ever!" But they didn't know what trouble they're inviting... & none of the papers/radio are reporting about the real price of the iPhone.
As for N97, some people want a real physical keyboard, but the iPhone remains the best virtual keyboard solution.
This is precisely what I was saying. Otange would never give such a gift to people, even here in France the price isn't that low...
dir li prend Iphone la... met dan so F...(Fridge :P )
the actual price was $199 i think.. rs8000... now making a contract(witch is SO LIMITED!!! )
shut the fuck up zoranz!!
useless deal..
buy a laptop dudes...
u get a MacBook for 60K.
i pity that guy on the picture :(
@Jo : lol, I have put special emphasis on
"Iphone ine faire pu zis glacer, dans morice!"
Its a pity that no newspaper talked about the real thing yet... a chance that bloggers are here!
Keep it up Carrot!
i prefer to have an ipod touch than making this cntract but does any1 know the price of the ipod touch in mauritius??
I've my eyes set on a Samsung Pixon. It still runs wm6 but it sports a 8 MBP camera.
iPhone - no because I run linux on Mac. So, it's kinda like a downer. Plus, the carrier restrictions suck.
Get the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music instead !
